The Limpopo SAPS Provincial Anti-Smuggling Task Team arrested a 33-year-old Zimbabwean national on Friday, 20 September 2024. The suspect was apprehended for multiple charges, including possession of a presumed stolen motor vehicle and contravention of the Immigration Act. The arrest occurred in the Polokwane policing area, near the Peter Mokaba Stadium, along the N1 road.
The arrest followed a tip-off received by the SAPS regarding a stolen vehicle that was allegedly being smuggled out of the country. Acting swiftly on the information, the task team stopped the suspect, who was found driving a white Toyota Fortuner.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the vehicle had been reported stolen in Alberton, Gauteng, on 18 September 2024.

The suspect, who was also driving without a valid driver’s license, faces charges related to the possession of the stolen vehicle and the violation of immigration laws. He is set to appear in the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 23 September 2024.
Limpopo Police Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, commended the team for their efforts, stating,
“The swift action of the task team has resulted in the recovery of a stolen vehicle and the apprehension of a suspect who attempted to flee the law. This arrest highlights the importance of community cooperation in fighting crime and protecting our borders.”
The police have confirmed that investigations are ongoing as they continue to probe the circumstances surrounding the case.
