Pakistani Businessman Purchases Stolen Phones from Robbers in Dawncrest – KZN

A complainant, whose mobile phone valued at R8000 was stolen, sought assistance from law enforcement officials yesterday afternoon (Tuesday).

The resident of Trenance Park in KwaZulu-Natal arrived at the law enforcement headquarters around 15:30 and reported that suspects had broken into his home and stolen valuables.

The stolen phone contained irreplaceable study documents.

Officials swiftly gathered information and tracked two known suspects to Phase Two in Trenance Park.

After a brief interview, they led officers to a takeaway and cellphone shop owned by a 46-year-old Pakistani national.

The stolen phone had been sold there for R200.

Upon questioning, the Pakistani national handed over the Samsung Galaxy A53 mobile phone, identified by its serial number and the victim’s photograph on the home screen.

The two suspects then pointed out the victim’s SIM card, which was hidden on the property.

The shop owner explained that he had arrived in South Africa eighteen years ago and had operated his business for several years from Dawncrest in KwaZulu-Natal.

According to the robbers, all stolen items had been sold to the Pakistani national at his shop, including phones from three victims robbed in April 2024.

The South African Police Services (SAPS) were called to the scene.

Law enforcement officers eventually released all three suspects after the complainant declined to press charges.
