In recent weeks, multiple incidents of stabbings and murders have been reported along the R102 between Cornubia, Phoenix, and Verulam in KwaZulu-Natal.
According to local police, the assailant targets stranded motorists and pedestrians, attacking them repeatedly before fleeing the scene.
In several cases, motorists were attacked while in their vehicles following mechanical failures.
Authorities suspect the perpetrator may reside near the road or patrol the main highway, making them visible to potential victims.
Most of these incidents occurred during the night.
The Verulam SAPS Crime Prevention Unit has stepped up its efforts, launching random high-visibility patrols along the R102 to ensure public safety.
Both motorists and pedestrians are urged to remain vigilant when traveling in the area, particularly during the darker hours.
