Missing Man Found After Eight-Day Search in Western Cape Mountains

Prince Alfred Hamlet, Western Cape – After an intensive eight-day search, police have successfully located 61-year-old Patrick Xhibu, who went missing in the mountains of Prince Alfred Hamlet.

Mr. Xhibu was reported missing by his wife on Sunday, 12 May 2024, at the Prince Alfred Hamlet police station.

His disappearance triggered a large-scale search operation involving the Prince Alfred Hamlet Crime Prevention Unit, detectives, and the SAPS Air Wing. The rugged terrain of the mountains made vehicle access impossible, necessitating a search on foot.

Missing Person: Sithembile Mkhungo

The extensive search effort culminated this morning with the discovery of Mr. Xhibu on the mountain. He was found in a state of severe dehydration and hunger, highlighting the harsh conditions he endured during his time missing. Following his rescue, he was airlifted to a nearby hospital to receive urgent medical care.

The police management in the Western Cape commended all involved in the search and rescue operation. Their dedication and teamwork were instrumental in reuniting Patrick Xhibu with his family.
