Body of Missing Pensioner Recovered in Esenembe, KZN

Esenembe, KZN – The body of 69-year-old pensioner Russell Lexton Cromhout was recovered in Esenembe, KwaZulu-Natal, on Saturday.

Cromhout, who had been missing for two weeks, was reported missing to the authorities on Thursday, May 30, 2024, by his family.

According to Cromhout’s son, the elderly man was last seen at his small holding in Esenembe.

Concerned family and friends, unable to reach him by phone, conducted a wellness check and discovered his house ransacked.

Despite an aerial search by the authorities using a Robinson R44 helicopter, neither Cromhout nor his vehicle could be located.

The breakthrough came on Saturday, June 1, 2024, when police officers from the Umhali SAPS apprehended a suspect in Upper Tongaat, KZN.

The suspect was found in possession of a firearm and ammunition. A second suspect was later arrested and found with the victim’s white Hyundai Tucson.

The suspects then led the police to a sugar cane plantation where Cromhout’s body was found.

Several household items stolen from Cromhout’s home were also recovered from the suspects.

The police are continuing their investigation into the tragic incident.
