Durban, June 18, 2024 — In a remarkable display of vigilance and cooperation, the Durban North Community Police Forum (CPF) and local law enforcement successfully arrested two suspects transporting a concealed dead body in a vehicle.
Darryl Oliver, Public Relations Officer for the Durban North CPF, praised the coordinated efforts of CPF members and Durban Metro Police.
On Friday, during a routine stop-and-search roadblock, CPF members assisted metro police in stopping a suspicious vehicle.

As the vehicle was being inspected, one suspect attempted to flee, prompting a chase by CPF members.
“The suspect ran into a nearby office park, where Durban Metro Police and SAPS members quickly joined our team in pursuit. The suspect was eventually found hiding in an office block and was apprehended by Durban Metro Police before being escorted back to the vehicle,” Oliver reported.
During a thorough search of the vehicle, authorities discovered a human body covered with cardboard, clothing, and blankets.
Medical personnel were summoned to the scene and confirmed the individual was deceased. Both the driver and passenger were detained and taken to the Durban North police station for further investigation.
Oliver commended the swift and decisive actions of the CPF and law enforcement officers, which led to the prompt arrest of the suspects.
“We extend our gratitude to our members and law enforcement officers for their outstanding response,” Oliver said.

Colonel Boysie Zungu, spokesperson for Durban Metro Police, confirmed the arrest of the two murder suspects following the discovery of the corpse.
“The vehicle was stopped on the M41 during a routine roadblock when officers noticed suspicious behavior from the driver. After a thorough search, a human body was found wrapped in plastic,” Zungu explained.
Zungu also confirmed that the suspects were detained at the Durban North police station. “We commend our officers for their excellent work in apprehending the suspects,” he added.
Additionally, the roadblock resulted in the arrest of 16 drunk drivers, with blood alcohol levels ranging from 0.28mg/1 to 0.71mg/1, and two more suspects for driving without professional driving permits.
