Durban, South Africa – Late Wednesday night in Umlazi’s U Section, two men suspected of involvement in a recent cash-in-transit robbery were shot and killed during a shootout with law enforcement officers.
The incident is the culmination of an intensive investigation led by the eThekwini District Tracking Team in collaboration with the Hawks, South Africa’s Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation.
The focus of the investigation was a brazen cross-pavement robbery that occurred in Isipingo, where at least three individuals assaulted a cash-in-transit security guard.

The guard, who had just exited a store after collecting money, was robbed of an undisclosed sum and his service firearm. The suspects fired shots randomly as they fled, resulting in the injury of a bystander, a woman who was caught in the crossfire.
The swift and strategic operations by the police led them to a residence in Umlazi, where the suspects were believed to be hiding.
Upon encountering the law enforcement officers, the suspects engaged in gunfire, triggering a shootout. The confrontation ended with two of the suspects dead and the recovery of two firearms from the scene. Remarkably, no police officers were injured during the exchange.
The incident has intensified the manhunt for the two remaining suspects, who managed to escape. Authorities are calling on the public for any information that could lead to their capture, emphasizing the importance of community support in combating crime.
