A motorist charged with culpable homicide after a tragic accident on the R61 near Mbizana in the Eastern Cape, which resulted in the deaths of six pedestrians, has been released on R1,000 bail.
Sanele Zinkwantshu, 24, appeared in the Mbizana magistrate’s court on Monday, where he was granted bail.
The devastating incident occurred on Friday, when Zinkwantshu’s BMW struck six individuals walking along the R61.
The victims, identified as Siyavuya Sabelo (31), Sandiso Nkasa (30), Kamvelihle Dindi (24), Mvisiswano Ngaleka (24), Sibonelo Potye (29), and Mthokozisi Jabulana (29), were all killed in the accident.

According to Luxolo Tyali, spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority, the pedestrians were walking along the road when the sedan, traveling from Mbizana towards Mzamba, collided with them.

Zinkwantshu was apprehended the following day and made his initial court appearance on Monday. The court has postponed the case until July 15 to allow for further investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident.
