Hazelmere, KZN – A 29-year-old Malawian national was apprehended and beaten by the community after he allegedly fondled three sisters while they were asleep in their room during the early hours of this morning (Saturday).
Residents contacted the authorities at approximately 05:39, requesting assistance at the scene.
On arrival, officers met with the parents of the three females, aged nine, fourteen, and eighteen.

The parents explained that their children were asleep in a single-room outbuilding when their neighbor entered the room and removed the blanket covering the three girls.
The man allegedly began fondling the children, prompting one of them to wake up and call for assistance from their parents, who were asleep in the main building. The suspect fled thereafter.
The sisters identified him as their neighbor, and his sandals were found in their room.

The parents and community members searched the area and located the suspect at a nearby tuckshop.
They assaulted him and contacted the authorities for assistance. During questioning, the suspect denied the allegations but stated that he was in the yard searching for a friend.
He confirmed that his sandals were missing but could not explain how they ended up in the children’s room.
He was placed under arrest and handed over to the Verulam SAPS for further investigation.
