Durban Metro Police Successfully Intercepts Arms Sale in Springfield
In a breakthrough against illegal arms trade, Crime Intelligence received crucial information about a large quantity of ammunition intended for sale on the black market in the Springfield area of EThekwini Municipality.
The Durban Metro Police Service Drug Team, along with other role players, swiftly formulated a strategic plan to intercept the suspect.

Strategic Operation
Members of the task force were provided with a detailed description of the suspect and his vehicle.
They strategically positioned themselves to cover all entry and exit points, ensuring there was no room for the suspect to escape.
After an hour of vigilant surveillance, the suspect’s vehicle was spotted, and the Metro Police Drug Team executed a precise maneuver to box in the vehicle, effectively preventing any chance of escape.
Arrest and Seizure
The suspect, identified as an Indian male, was found in possession of 1,500 rounds of 9mm live ammunition.
Upon confrontation, he admitted to being at the location to sell the ammunition, although the intended buyer did not show up.
Further investigation revealed evidence linking the suspect to gang-related activities in KwaZulu-Natal.
The suspect was promptly arrested and detained at Sydenham South African Police Service (SAPS) station.
The seized items, including 1,500 rounds of 9mm live ammunition and a Samsung cellphone, were booked into Sydenham SAPS as evidence.
