Hazelmere, KZN – A 38-year-old woman was shot while attempting to defend herself and her children during a violent home invasion and hijacking in Hazelmere this afternoon.
The incident occurred around 18:12 yesterday when the victim alerted her neighbors, who promptly contacted Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) for assistance. Reaction Officers were dispatched to the scene immediately.
Upon arrival, RUSA officers learned that three armed suspects had broken into the home.
The woman, along with her 12-year-old son and 23-year-old daughter, were confronted by the intruders.

Her son was forced under a bed after he began screaming in terror.
The suspects demanded valuables from the family and shot the woman in her right arm and pelvis when she tried to protect her children.
After the shooting, the robbers ransacked the house, discovering the keys to the family’s grey VW Jetta 5, registration number NJ 107 697.
They stole a Samsung cellphone before fleeing in the stolen vehicle.

The injured woman was quickly taken to a hospital by private means. Fortunately, her children were unharmed during the traumatic ordeal.
