Final Goodbye: Pinetown Schoolgirl to be Laid to Rest Today After Tragic Hit-and-Run Incident

The Pinetown community is in mourning as they prepare to lay 13-year-old Nqobile Hlophe to rest today.

On Friday, July 19, 2024, at approximately 2:00 AM, Nqobile’s family received reports of her last being seen around the Ashley area, on the roads leading towards the Pinetown Army Base, located above the N3 freeway.

Responding to the reports, her family rushed to the location and discovered her school bag on the N3 freeway bridge.

The family immediately contacted the police, who responded promptly.

Upon arrival, police initiated an investigation and discovered the scene of a hit-and-run accident under the bridge where Nqobile was last seen.

The victim’s description matched that of Nqobile, and tragically, the search came to an end.

It was later confirmed that Nqobile had been struck by several vehicles, resulting in severe injuries. Her body was found badly damaged due to multiple vehicles running over her.

The heartbreaking news was shared with the community through social media channels, and an outpouring of grief and condolences followed.

The Pinetown Girls High School held a memorial service yesterday to honor Nqobile’s memory, attended by her classmates, teachers, and community members who knew and loved her.
