Olympic silver medalist and African long jump record holder Luvo Manyonga has expressed deep regret over how he squandered R84 million in less than four years.
The 33-year-old athlete’s spending spree saw him indulge in luxury cars, women, and drugs, a lifestyle that led to a downward spiral.
“I wish I could turn back the hands of time,” Manyonga confided, reflecting on how his actions impacted both himself and those around him.
Initially, he used his wealth to renovate his parents’ home in Paarl, Western Cape, and to provide for his family and some members of his community.
But as time went on, his behavior took a darker turn.
“I spent close to R400,000 on a month’s stay at a luxury hotel, partying nonstop,” he admitted.
His sister, Vuyiseka Manyonga, revealed that he had a personal drug dealer on speed dial, exacerbating his downfall.
Manyonga’s extravagant tastes extended to renting cars at R20,000 per day, often returning them wrecked, resulting in an additional R100,000 in insurance.
Now, Manyonga hopes for a chance to rebuild his life and career, with his athletics ban set to end in December.
