Kgomotso Bopape, known as DJ Kalewa, has raised claims of unmet promises against famed artist King Monada.
According to DJ Kalewa, an agreement was made in 2022 involving a payment of R15,000 for a musical collaboration.
The project was to include DJ Kalewa featuring in a track with King Monada, a commitment that reportedly remains unfulfilled.
DJ Kalewa alleges that the collaboration was delayed by King Monada under the pretext of scheduling conflicts due to other commitments, including the shooting of a music video for “Aye Kuwa.”
Following the initial agreement and postponement, DJ Kalewa claims to have been given a new date to reconvene, which turned out to be a day King Monada was not present, leading to further delays.
As a result of these unresolved issues, DJ Kalewa turned to the Tzaneen Small Claims Court for recourse.
It is reported that in November 2023, King Monada agreed to settle the dispute by paying R2,000.
However, further payments ceased, and subsequent attempts to contact King Monada for the remaining balance were met with resistance.
DJ Kalewa reports that his calls were repeatedly blocked by the artist, and further communications were met with excuses and avoidance.
This situation highlights the challenges and frustrations faced by independent artists in the music industry, particularly when collaborations with well-known figures fail to materialize.
DJ Kalewa is currently seeking the remaining balance owed and is calling for a resolution to what has become a protracted and disheartening ordeal.
For now, the resolution of this dispute remains to be seen, and the community awaits further developments.
DJ Kalewa expresses a heartfelt plea for assistance in obtaining what he believes is rightfully owed to him.
