Polokwane – A brutal attack occurred yesterday morning in Tshidimbini village, just outside Thohoyandou.
The attack resulted in the dismemberment of a 41-year-old man and severe injuries to a 32-year-old woman and her 10-year-old daughter, allegedly at the hands of a male family member.
Police responded swiftly to a complaint of murder and attempted murder.
Upon arriving at the scene, officers were confronted with a horrific sight—a human head at the gate.
Inside the house, they discovered the decapitated body of the male victim, bound with a rope.
The woman and her child, who had also been attacked, were already en route to the hospital when police arrived.
The suspect, a 38-year-old man, was apprehended at the scene.
Authorities confiscated a hammer, spade, and knife believed to have been used in the savage assault.
Lieutenant General Hadebe condemned the act in the strongest terms, stating,
“Such senseless, cruel, and inhumane brutality has no place in our society, and we condemn it in the strongest possible terms. No one has a right to take anybody’s life, even with the slightest provocation. We assure everyone affected that justice will be served without fear or favour.”
The police have filed a case of murder and two counts of attempted murder against the suspect.
While the motive remains unclear, investigators have not ruled out domestic violence.
The suspect is expected to appear before the Thohoyandou Magistrate’s Court soon. The community remains in shock as they grapple with the aftermath of this tragic event, hoping for swift justice for the victims and their families.
