When she insisted and left, Qebe grew increasingly angry.
Upon her return later that night, accompanied by a friend named Mbali, Qebe refused to let her inside the house.
Siphokazi eventually managed to enter through a window, and it was then that Qebe launched a vicious attack on her.
The court heard that Qebe continued to beat Siphokazi until she was unrecognizable.
The following morning, upon realizing that Siphokazi had died in her sleep due to the injuries inflicted, Qebe attempted to cover up his crime.
He set her body on fire and dismembered it, placing the remains in a trash bin before disposing of them in a dumpsite in Mbekweni.
The horrific nature of the crime left the courtroom in shock, with the judge condemning Qebe’s actions as heinous and beyond comprehension.
In delivering the life sentence, the judge emphasized the need for justice for the victim and a strong message to society that such violence will not be tolerated.
The community of Mbekweni has expressed relief at the sentencing, hoping it will bring some closure to Siphokazi’s family and serve as a deterrent to others who may contemplate such violent actions.
The case has also sparked discussions about the ongoing issue of gender-based violence in the region, with calls for more robust measures to protect women from similar fates.
