Eastern Cape, South Africa – A tragic turn of events has gripped the community of Fort Beaufort as the Eastern Cape police confirmed the discovery of the body of 24-year-old Zintle Takane.
Takane, who had been reported missing, was found buried in a shallow grave on Tuesday, June 4, 2024.
The police have arrested one person in connection with the murder, believed to be her boyfriend. He is expected to appear in the Fort Beaufort Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, June 6.

The suspect’s arrest has brought a mix of shock and relief to the community, as they hope for justice for Takane.
Lieutenant Colonel Siphokazi Mawisa, police spokesperson, stated that Takane was reported missing on Friday, May 31.
The police had issued an appeal on Tuesday, June 4, urging anyone with information regarding her whereabouts to come forward.

“It is alleged that Takane was last seen around 9 PM with her boyfriend in Mike Valley, Fort Beaufort,” said Mawisa.
“She reportedly left with him in his white Mercedes-Benz. That was the last time anyone saw or heard from her. Her boyfriend was also untraceable for any information concerning her whereabouts.”
The arrest of the 34-year-old suspect followed intensive police investigations. Mawisa confirmed that investigations are ongoing as authorities work to piece together the events leading to Takane’s tragic death.
The community of Fort Beaufort has been deeply affected by Takane’s death, and many are calling for swift justice.
This incident has also raised concerns about the safety of women in the region, highlighting the urgent need for measures to prevent such tragedies in the future.
