According to sources, Constable Thabo Thusi was indebted to the deceased Sergeant, who had been lending money to fellow officers. The Sergeant, known for his informal money-lending activities, was reportedly owed a significant amount by Constable Thusi. When Thusi failed to repay the debt, tensions escalated, leading to the fatal shooting on the night of 4 June 2024.

The incident that happened at Nsuze Police Station is unfortunate, and although criminal charges and internal disciplinary processes will be pursued against the suspect, more efforts must be invested into the investigation of what could have led to such a gruesome murder inside a building which is supposed to be a safe haven for police officers.”
