Police Injure Four Suspects in Mtshezi Cash-in-Transit Heist

In an incident occurring on Wednesday afternoon, February 28, 2024, in the Mtshezi area, police shot and wounded four suspects during an attempted cash-in-transit heist.

The suspects, using three vehicles, forced the security guards driving the cash transport vehicle to stop, then robbed them of firearms and money, leading to a shootout with responding road police officers.

As a result, two officers were injured, according to police reports.

Police from the Escourt road quickly responded to the incident, shooting and injuring four suspects.

They recovered two AK-47 rifles, an R5 rifle, a collection of firearms, and an unspecified amount of money, all found in the suspects’ vehicle. Another vehicle used by the suspects was reported stolen from Germiston, Johannesburg.

The police are continuing their investigation into the event.
