Adidas shoes valued at approximately seven million rands were stolen after a truck was hijacked in Cato Ridge, KwaZulu-Natal on Wednesday, 08 May 2024.
The truck’s owner contacted law enforcement at around 15:52 yesterday, reporting that his hijacked truck, which had been loaded with a twelve-meter shipping container, was found abandoned in Verulam, KZN, and the consignment stolen.
An informer had sent the owner a photograph of the abandoned trailer, which he then shared with law enforcement officials.
Officers who viewed the photograph were able to pinpoint the location along Old Main Road, which runs from Canelands to Tongaat.
Upon arriving at the scene, they found the trailer but discovered that the shipping container was empty.
The truck owner, arriving shortly after law enforcement, explained that the vehicle was initially hijacked near a service station.
Though the truck itself was later found in Cato Ridge, the trailer and shipping container, which had been loaded with 6,900 pairs of Adidas shoes, were missing.
All stolen footwear featured the same design.
As of now, the driver of the truck, a Zimbabwean national, has yet to be located since the incident. Law enforcement continues to investigate the high-value theft and is working on leads to apprehend those responsible.
