Brakpan, 22 May 2024 – Members of the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD), in conjunction with the Gauteng Traffic Police, successfully intercepted three suspects on the R23 for possession of unlicensed firearms, ammunition, and metro police uniforms.
The interception occurred at 07:50 when officers on routine patrol noticed a suspicious silver VW Polo hatchback with three male occupants.
The officers, recognizing potential criminal activity, promptly made a U-turn and stopped the vehicle. They were soon backed up by additional EMPD officers.

Upon a tactical approach and subsequent search of the vehicle and its occupants, officers discovered a range of illicit items.
These included an unlicensed Glock 45 firearm with an intact serial number, a Glock-shaped pellet gun, and various EMPD uniforms.
The uniforms comprised two reflector jackets, two trousers, two shirts, two caps, and one belt. Additionally, a dashboard blue light and traffic police stationery were found in the vehicle.

The suspects, two South African males aged 34 and 35, and a foreign national male aged 29, were promptly arrested.
They face charges related to the possession of unlicensed firearms, ammunition, and police equipment, raising serious concerns about the impersonation of law enforcement officers.
This interception underscores the ongoing efforts of the EMPD and Gauteng Traffic Police to enhance road safety and combat criminal activities.
