In Durban, a confrontation between law enforcement and three alleged hitmen culminated in the latter’s death following a shootout in Eshowe on Thursday afternoon, March 21, 2024.
Members of the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Stabilization Team, acting on a tip-off regarding the armed suspects purportedly en route to carry out a contract killing, attempted to intercept their vehicle near King Dinizulu.
The suspects’ refusal to comply initiated a high-speed pursuit.
When cornered, the suspects exited their vehicle and opened fire on the police, prompting a retaliatory response from the well-prepared officers.
The exchange of gunfire resulted in the death of the three suspects, while one officer sustained injuries.
Upon searching the suspects and their vehicle, police discovered two handguns, one of which had its serial number tampered with, ammunition, and a hand grenade. Investigations revealed that two of the deceased suspects were wanted in connection with multiple taxi-related homicides and attempted murders in the King Cetshwayo District.
