On Sunday, June 2, Sanele attended a neighborhood church service. After the service, he received a phone call late and left the church service and members assumed he is going home.

Their worst fears were confirmed when his body was discovered on Sunday, June 9, in a forest. Sanele was still wearing the same clothes from the previous Sunday, and the cake he had been given was found uneaten.
The murderers took Sanele’s phone, presumably to destroy evidence.
However, in a critical breakthrough, one of the suspects accidentally dropped their own phone at the scene, providing a vital lead for investigators.
