Durban, June 18, 2024 — Two men accused of traveling with the corpse of a woman appeared briefly in the Durban Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.
Manqoba Mhlongo, 40, and Nelisa Gadiso, 27, were charged with murder after the body was discovered wrapped in plastic in their vehicle.
During the court proceedings, both men maintained their innocence, despite the presence of legal aid representatives. The magistrate informed them that they would have the opportunity to present their case during the bail hearing.

Prosecutor Calvin Govender opposed bail, citing ongoing investigations. The suspects were apprehended near La Lucia on June 14 after they attempted to flee a routine stop-and-search roadblock.
“We are still investigating,” Govender stated.
eThekwini Metro Police spokesperson, Colonel Boysie Zungu, recounted the events leading to their arrest.
“The vehicle was stopped on the M41 by metro police during a stop-and-search roadblock. The driver started acting suspiciously and attempted to flee. Officers gave chase,” Zungu explained.
Upon searching the vehicle, police discovered the woman’s body. Medical personnel were called to the scene and confirmed her death.

The case has been adjourned to June 25 for address verification, and the suspects have been remanded to the Durban North police cells.
