Durban: 6 June 2024 – The investigation into the tragic shooting incident at Nsuze Police Station has revealed further details as the suspect, a 40-year-old Constable, faces both criminal charges and internal disciplinary actions.
The shocking event unfolded on the night of 4 June 2024, when a 47-year-old Sergeant was found dead with gunshot wounds inside the Community Service Centre (CSC) at Nsuze Police Station.
According to initial reports, the on-duty Constable heard gunshots and rushed to the CSC, only to find his Sergeant colleague fatally wounded and an off-duty Constable fleeing the scene.

In an unexpected development, the suspected murderer, who was off duty at the time of the shooting, reported for duty the following morning. This led to his immediate arrest by his fellow officers.
Provincial Commissioner of KwaZulu-Natal, Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, has reiterated the importance of police officers utilizing internal Employee Health and Wellness (EHW) programs to maintain mental health and avoid resorting to violence.
He emphasized that maintaining good relationships among officers and keeping a vigilant eye on their well-being is crucial.

“Commanders must be observant at all times and be closer to their members so that they may identify any feud between officers or any sense of unhappiness,” stated Lieutenant General Mkhwanazi.
“Policing is a demanding and traumatic job at times, and police officers are the most prized resources of the organization and must be looked after as such. The incident that happened at Nsuze Police Station is unfortunate, and although criminal charges and internal disciplinary processes will be pursued against the suspect, more efforts must be invested into the investigation of what could have led to such a gruesome murder inside a building which is supposed to be a safe haven for police officers.”
The motive behind the shooting remains unclear, and the investigation is ongoing. Authorities are working to uncover any underlying issues that may have contributed to this tragic event.
The police force is urged to support one another during this difficult time and to utilize available mental health resources to prevent future incidents.
